Freshmen Party Live @ SP Concourse

Yesterday, Thursday 10th April 08, will be the most memorable event I have ever emceed.

The day started out like any other event, Naing and I met and we had our lunch earlier than the reporting time. Well we shouldn't have had Mc Donald's. The reason would come in later.

As a series of events unfolded, we watched the 2 Farhans get "screwed" by SAA. My sympathy goes out to both of you. That aside, I'll talk about the event proper.

It started out with the unleashing of the freshies into the concourse which was, in fact, quite a sight. I've never seen so many people streaming into the same place at the same time apart from SP Dance's Waves 12 concert. The estimated attendance for the entire party was 2000 students but feeling the atmosphere generated from the crowd, it felt as though there were 20000 students altogether.

The food was the first attraction for the freshies, with the more eager ones skipping that and crowding in front of the stage. Then the 2 bands had to do their sound checks, which the freshies mistook as the real deal. They jumped to the sound checks, which started at around 4.50pm.

Then Naing and I got on stage and did our emceeing. FPWAH! **This goes out to all present at the concourse for the Freshmen Party Live* You audience was SPECTACULAR! Cross my heart to what I'm about to say, you were the best crowd I've ever had.**

After the sound checks, we had to get the audience to sit down around a mattress on the dance floor, and I thought it was going to be hell, but instead, the audience was more than willing to comply. No jeering, no loud Tsks, just swift action. *I praise you all once again* It was the SP Capoirea's chance to steal the show, which they did. Loud cheers, then SP Cheer-Leading went on. Cheers once again, and cat calls to the girls too. Haha. After that the floor was cleared and poeple could now crowd all the way to the stage. That's when the madness started.

The official band performances were up next, the 2 bands belted out 7 songs altogether and this really fanned the flames within these freshies. Jumping and rocking to the more popular songs while they rocked to the not so common ones, they apparently made the scene look like Glastonbury!

Naing and I pushed the energy level up one more notch when we said we moved th genre over to hip-hop for SP Dance, Strictly Dance Zone. The crowd was less noisy cause many couldn't see the performance itself - the legs of the dancers were blocked by the taller audiences at the front. But then again, at the end of the performance, they roared back into life.

We cleared the floor once again *one more praise for co-operativeness* and invited SP Dance Sport, which mesmerized the crowd. In fact, they were so into it that they didn't know the performance had ended and didn't cheer until I told them it was over. Hahaha.

Then it came to getting closer to the crowd, we got 10 participants on stage for the Catwalk session and boy did they let it all go. Unlike some of the spoilt and unsporting contestants I've had before, these 10 really fit the description for letting down their hair. We were actually supposed to have 8 people but had 10 in the end cause I felt it was only right to give more joy to this great audience, so I got another 2 contestants by giving away the extra prizes. Then we had the 2nd best beat boxer in Singapore, Bryant, to perform and teach 3 participants. And we had a great time, with a joker on stage trying his "best", raining the front audience with saliva.

Then came the 2nd step the nirvana, where SP Deejays took to the table. It was a little sloppy at first, with some of the crowd telling me to get the songs changed, but when the more popular songs came on, all was well.

Pure nirvana came when DJ Rattle took to the table. Thumping away, the tracks were almost too good to be true. I don't club, but I really enjoyed myself through the entire clubbing feel. Gyrating and dancing, I got to know 2 new freshies which could end up helping me out with events, basically cause they were from the Diploma in Integrated Events and Management course. So I exchanged numbers with them and continued dancing.

Now here's the reason why I shouldn't have had Mc Donald's. For a crowd of 2000 or more, who are bursting at the seams with pure adrenaline and listens, respects and cheers for everything (even the emcees), would you lose your voice for their enjoyment? I would hands down. And that's why it is the best event I've ever had.

And with that, I'll end my post about the Freshmen Party Live at the concourse.

Greetings to all the freshies! And a shout out to Charmaine and Kayla from DEPM year 1.
