Technology...

Since 12 midnight, I've been clicking on "Inbox" and the refresh icon, hoping to see a (1) beside "Inbox." Yes yes, it's the long awaited release of the results and this wait is killing me. Agonising it is, but what makes it even more acute is that one can't help but keep clicking and hoping. And that's one bad thing about technology.

Today, almost everything is automated, which makes life very...well, very immediate. Call it convenience as some may say, but gone are the days where we can relax without the fear that someone needs to contact you urgently about work (and that gives us extra time to do work, an excuse that is).

I was clearing my drawer when I found an old pager from those days, and what seemed like technology back then is now an object of "HUH?" What I mean is: 'HUH? We used to use that? Oh my god! Can't believe it! Life must have been really inconvenient...'

But so we think, don't you find life very hastened because of technology? Everything has to be right at the moment or we'd lose out. Short Messaging Service text messages are a very good example. I was asleep when I received a message from a friend's senior asking for help. It was a paid job but I needed to start IMMEDIATELY at 10am-end of shoot. And the message came at 830am. So I was being myself, SLEEPING LIKE A LOG, and didn't get to read the message till 1pm. And yes I missed the opportunity.

But well, I have to agree that it has made life much more convenient and IMPERSONAL. Try to recall when was the last time you heard a friend breaking up via SMS/MSN/Email, or professing his/her love via SMS/MSN/Email? It's become another channel of communication. minus the emotions. And that's really dangerous.

So...Think twice before sending out that text message, or electronic mail...

I shall go back to waiting and clicking on "Inbox" and Refresh. *HURRY UP!*

Strange Dreams....

I've been having so much time to sleep during this holidays that I've been dreaming up... well dreaming up really strange dreams.

I dreamt I had a heart operation, I was in an earthquake, I was in the army and many many more. And what makes it more uncanny is that they all seem to be "happening" (not literally of course). See I dreamt that I was awaiting and went through the process of a heart operation, a heart transplant as a matter of fact, and the very next day I was watching it happen on Discovery Channel! Same goes for the earthquake, I saw on the news that a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Sumatra! And about army life, I've been playing this computer game called Battlefield 2, where I fight as a modern day soldier. So it's counted as "happened." There are a few others but they happened the day before, so I can't really remember them.

Strange......

Vacations!

Vacations...

Like the falling leaves of the autumn tree,
I greet my vacations with a pleasant glee.
Pushing the thought of work aside,
I wake up each day and rest, not gripe.

Alas! The time of comfort and ease,
Without the need of my elbow grease.
But is life a little to perfect right now,
Eating nicely and sleeping sound?

The time where the urge to do something is lurking,
Where I wish I can get busy and do something (that's coming)
And I'm hoping to allocate things to my schedule,
So that life's not wasted by the time school-reopening's due.

But then again the cycle starts,
Where people worry, stress and even fart!
And wished the vacations were back,
And they could be given a little more slack.

Ah, the life of a student's always great,
Where we dream and plot our very own fate.
So let's not gripe, complain and grumble so much,
And take it in stride, that's life as such.

Morbid?

It's morbid for me to talk about death during the period of the Lunar New Year, but so much has happened around me that I can't not talk about it.

Already I know of 3 people whose close relative has passed on, and one of them being her father. It seems like an ominous beginning for the entire year ahead, which I thought I had before (now paling in comparison).

I thought my fall outside SMU just a few days before the Lunar New Year was bad, giving me a bad gash on my elbow & ankle plus a heavily bruised elbow. But all these were minimal as compared to losing a loved one. Last year, on the second day of the Lunar New Year, my entire family celebrated my late-grandmother's birthday, and thankfully the celebration was the biggest one in her entire lifetime. All relatives turned up, even those who were usually absent, making the entire celebration a grand finale for my grandma. Just about 1 and a half months later, complications in her health surfaced and it all went down hill after that.

But Grandma was very blessed to have had such a great celebration. A friend's father passed away very shortly after a CNY dinner in his bed room just a few days ago. Even more disheartening, the cremation was yesterday, Valentine's Day. But that is not the most painful part, his youngest daughter is only 5 years old, and doesn't know that he has passed on. Which is the most unbearable fact. quoting from a friend, she said "Mummy bought a big bed for daddy(the coffin) because it's comfortable and airy. Daddy's sleeping." This really gave me a rude shock. The past news of people falling down a dying with no real reason had no real impact until something like this happened, and it really is devastating (even when I'm not directly involved).

I pray for my friends that they have the strength to carry on and pull through this ordeal. I've been through grief, and I hope they will remain strong. As for lessons that I can learn, keep healthy and fit while cherishing each and every day I have with anyone.

Go bless you

the environment

With the new addition to the family - Baby Adelia, plus loads of spare time now, I've took a step back and look at life from a third person's point of view (letting Jamie Scott and the Town play in the back ground).

It's really amazing how people - human beings - have developed the world. From little creatures who dwelled in caves, drawing what seems today as a five year old's perspective of the things around, to erecting towering sky-scrapers that loom over each and every single individual who stands before it's majestic facade.

We homosapiens have really triumphed in the evolution, but is development really all that matters? Each and everyday we strive to build the biggest, tallest, longest, shortest, smartest, technological, fastest (and many other adverbs) things around with the reason of making life easier, more convenient or other reasons. But this decision to develop at lightning speed has in fact ignited the development at a level that we do not want started - The End of the World.

Yes I know it sounds absurd that I'm talking about Global Warming and other topics here, but an advertisement on Discovery Channel has got me thinking of my own family. Quoting from a programme aired on Discovery Channel, Las Vegas's beautiful lighting and adornment uses up so much energy in a day that it is enough to power up an entire small city alone for a month.

Is that really necessary? Is making money really that important as compared to sustainable development? Is it really that important for each and every economy to be pink and robust with a strong competitive edge compared to others? Why is it that we're still putting the environment at a position that it seems as though we do not care?

The reason why Baby Adelia's gotten into my topic today is because I was wondering, what if twenty or maybe ten years down the road, the world would end. Would our later generations have to live through the mess that we have created? Would we, the generation of today, live to see the end of the world?

I'm not an environmentalist, but the conditions of today's living has given me a scare. The way some industries generate pollution is really damaging to mother earth. But yet there's no way we can so anything about it. Unless (it's a really absurd and crazy thought but...) the entire world was one body, ran under one government (Pro-environment that is), like a communist country. Only that way, can we ensure that everyone's catered for.

Well, that's only a thought! Maybe one day, where the world's really at it's end, would such a thing happen. But for now, I'll just have to do my part and save what little I can of the environment.

Lunar New year!

The Lunar New Year is here and here's wishing all a very Happy Lunar New Year!

The exams are over and same goes for my 9 day job! Got my pay and now I'm awaiting the processing of it so that I can use the money to buy a new ear-piece for my iPod. Actually, I'm torn while making this decision whether to buy or not because if the iPhone were to be launched after I should buy the ear piece then it's a waste of money because I'll be using the iPhone ear piece/mouth piece most of the time. So by wanting to buy this ear piece, it shows how much a risk I'm taking. *I hope the iPhone doesn't disappoint me in that sense.

This year's Lunar New Year seems a little boring. I'm actually blogging, so you can see how boring it is. Hahaha, I've had my lunch and I'm now waiting for visitors to arrive. Well well, I shall go listen to some music now. Happy Lunar New Year once again!
