Technology...
Since 12 midnight, I've been clicking on "Inbox" and the refresh icon, hoping to see a (1) beside "Inbox." Yes yes, it's the long awaited release of the results and this wait is killing me. Agonising it is, but what makes it even more acute is that one can't help but keep clicking and hoping. And that's one bad thing about technology.
Today, almost everything is automated, which makes life very...well, very immediate. Call it convenience as some may say, but gone are the days where we can relax without the fear that someone needs to contact you urgently about work (and that gives us extra time to do work, an excuse that is).
I was clearing my drawer when I found an old pager from those days, and what seemed like technology back then is now an object of "HUH?" What I mean is: 'HUH? We used to use that? Oh my god! Can't believe it! Life must have been really inconvenient...'
But so we think, don't you find life very hastened because of technology? Everything has to be right at the moment or we'd lose out. Short Messaging Service text messages are a very good example. I was asleep when I received a message from a friend's senior asking for help. It was a paid job but I needed to start IMMEDIATELY at 10am-end of shoot. And the message came at 830am. So I was being myself, SLEEPING LIKE A LOG, and didn't get to read the message till 1pm. And yes I missed the opportunity.
But well, I have to agree that it has made life much more convenient and IMPERSONAL. Try to recall when was the last time you heard a friend breaking up via SMS/MSN/Email, or professing his/her love via SMS/MSN/Email? It's become another channel of communication. minus the emotions. And that's really dangerous.
So...Think twice before sending out that text message, or electronic mail...
I shall go back to waiting and clicking on "Inbox" and Refresh. *HURRY UP!*
