Another Day In Paradise
Today I shall blog about something etched in one of the pages of my memory.
The very first time I heard this song, Another day in paradise by Phil Collins, was one that gave me a very very deep impression.
I was still in primary school and on my free weekends, my family would visit the Saint Joseph's Home. It's a home for the aged and some other ill patients. It was a Sunday and we were there visiting and one of the nuns brought us to visit these less fortunate. Room by room, we spoke and entertained some of the aged until we were brought to this air-conditioned room. In it lay a motionless body, hooked up to beeping, moving and flashing devices.
This limp body belonged to a boy older than me (at that time). I was only in primary 5 while he was in primary 6. Sadly, this little boy had some illness and was in a coma (I'm not sure with the details), and was lying there peacefully.
There he was, alone with no company, just this black hi-fi radio that was tuned to Class 95. And at the very moment we stepped into the room, the deejay announced the title, "Another Day In Paradise."
So there I was, this little primary 5 boy, listening to Phil Collin going... She walks up the the man on the street...(on and on).... and I could just cry to the song at that very moment. I felt so sorry for him, just felt that he should be jumping around like all other boys did.
This was the very first time I felt so empty and hollow inside me because of a song. It's the very first time I heard this song, and it's been in my head (with the story of the boy). Although the song's lyrics has no link to the entire scene, its title has planted such a great impact on me. I'll never forget it, and hopefully one day when I return to Saint Joseph's Home, I will hear of his good news. May God bless you, this child that I was visiting so many years ago. :)
I hope you'll enjoy this song just as much as I did so many years ago.
